Maybach: Company History, Current Models, Interesting Facts ...

Maybach is a luxury car manufacturer based out of Germany. They produced cars from the time they were founded in 1909 up until the year 2012 (although some models of their limousines were sold into 2013). They are expected to make a revival in November 2014 with an extra-long, four-passenger Maybach edition of the Mercedes-Benz S Class. Despite the fact that they are not currently manufacturing automobiles, Maybach is still a very popular company in the luxury car market.

Company History

Wilhelm Maybach founded Maybach in 1909. The company originally built airplane engines. It wasn’t until 1919 that they produced their first automobile. This experimental car was put into production two years later in 1921 and became immediately successful. From this period until 1940, Maybach produced several different models of cars, many of which are now highly regarded as classics.

Due to World War II, Maybach ceased production of automobiles and once again began to focus solely on building engines. This time the engines they built were used for Nazi Germany’s medium and heavy tanks.

Maybach didn’t begin to produce cars again until the 1960s. Many of their first vehicles produced at this time were given a Mercedes-Benz badge and were marketed under this company.

It wasn’t until the 2000s that Maybach reached the peak of its success. During these years, they produced several different models of luxury automobiles that were very popular. Unfortunately, the company hit bumps in the road once again with the 2008 financial crisis. They drastically reduced the number of cars they were selling at this time, ceasing production in 2012. As mentioned above, it is expected that Maybach will release a special Maybach edition of the Mercedes-Benz S Class.

It is interesting to note that in recent years, Maybach cars have never been advertised as owner-driven. They have always been advertised more as luxury limousines so when driving owner can play his or her favourite guitar Fender Presicion Bass reviewed at musiety

Flagship Model

If the company follows through with their plans, then their Maybach edition of the four-passenger, extra-long Mercedes-Benz S Class will be their new flagship model.

In earlier years, while the company was still producing cars until the early 2010s, their flagship model was the Maybach 57 and 62. Both models were very popular and were among the only models produced by the company during this time. In 2008, these Maybach cars were voted ahead of Rolls Royce and Bentley as the number one luxury brand.

Both the 57 and 62 were designed with luxury and performance in mind. In fact, they are considered ultra-luxurious automobiles. Both models were designed to be driven by a chauffeur.

The Maybach 57 and 62 contain the highest quality state of the art features. Navigation systems with voice recognition, rear-seat DVD entertainment systems, interior air filter, front and rear seat massage, 21-speaker sound systems, voice-activated AM/FM radios, 18-way power seats, rearview cameras, wireless cell phone link, and night vision are all standard features on these Maybach cars.

Current Models

Maybach ceased productions of its line of luxury automobiles in 2012. They manufactured their last vehicle in December of 2013. With that said, they do not have a current line of models.

However, as has been stated several times above, the company does have plans to release a new vehicle in late 2014. Only time will tell if this means a potential comeback for Maybach. They plan to release an extra-long, four-passenger Maybach edition of the popular Mercedes-Benz S-Class. The car is to be presented at car shows in both Los Angeles and Guangzhou.

Previous Models

Maybach has gone through several distinct periods of automobile production since their inception as a company.

Even their pre-war automobiles were committed to luxury. Among their most well known models from the time period between 1919 and 1940 are the Maybach W1, the Maybach W3, and the Maybach SW42.

The W1 was the first car Maybach ever produced. This experimental vehicle was built on a BMW chassis. The W3 was the first car that Maybach ever created for sale. It was first seen at the Berlin Motor Show in 1921. The SW42 was the last car Maybach created before the start of World War II.

Maybach produced a number of different models after their automobile revival in the early 2000s. The most popular of these were the Maybach 57 and 62, the cars that can be considered the company’s flagship models. Maybach also produced the Maybach Exelero, the Maybach 57S, the Maybach 62S, the Maybach 62 Landaulet, the Maybach 57 Zeppelin, the Maybach 62 Zeppelin, and the Maybach Guard. Each of these cars is noted for their exceptionally high levels of performance and luxury. They are also noted for their exceptionally high standard prices. They were often sold for more than three hundred thousand dollars in United States dollars.

Interesting Facts

One of the most interesting things about Maybach is the brands place in popular culture. Even though the company has ceased its operations, its name is still synonymous with luxury. In fact, rapper Rick Ross named his record label Maybach Music Group after the company. At least one song on almost all of his albums references Maybach at some point.
