SsangYong Korando Review & Ratings

From the words “Korea Can Do” the Korando has become a reliable and a beautifully-designed SUV from South Korea. Although it started out as a licensed production of the western Jeep CJ-7, it has become a brand of its own, especially with the 3rd generation line-up, which has so much in line for the future. With 5 upcoming concept cars, the Koronado will not only be considered one of the world's most beautiful SUV, it will soon have its mark for environmentally-healthy engines.

South Korean automaker SsangYong introduced the first generation Korando in 1983. It was the local production of the Jeep CJ-7. SsangYong made it their own when they produced a 9-seat version of the mini SUV. In 1996, the 2nd generation Korando, designed by Professor Ken Greenly, was released to the Asian market. Between 1999 and 2001, this model was also sold as the Daewoo Korando because Daewoo bought shares of SsangYong. The 3rd generation Korando, released in 2010, is also called the SsangYong C200; it is part of the new line of cars that the South Korean automaker will be releasing.

The second generation Korando came in 2.3 and 3.2 liter gasoline engines, and a 2.9 liter diesel engine all licensed by Mercedes-Benz. The interior of this version had a steering wheel arch so that if it was to be converted to a right hand drive, it would be easier and less expensive. The third generation Korando runs on 2.0 L I4 petrol and diesel engines. Upon release, the 2.0 liter turbo diesel was the available option; then, in 2012, the petrol engine was produced. Fuel consumption for the petrol engine is at 6.6 l/100 km in an urban setting and as for the diesel engine, its consumption is 6.3 l/100 km.

Safety and Security

The Korando comes equipped with dual airbags, passenger and driver side airbags, side curtain airbags, Anti-lock brakes (ABS), Emergency stopping signal, a Brake assistance system, Electronic brake force distribution, Electronic stability control, Active rollover protection and a Hill start assistance. It also has a 3-sensor rear-parking sensors, rain-sensing wipers, automatic antiglare day/night interior mirror, and automatic headlights.

Space and Comfort

Having luxurious upholstery in the interior makes the Korando stylish and classy. With its technologically-advanced features, driving and riding inside this piece of art cannot be more satisfying. This mini SUV mixes space, comfort, and design all into one, giving you a confident and enjoyable ride. If you need the extra room for children’s schoolbags, groceries, or anything else, you can fold the backseats to almost double the amount of luggage space the Korando has to offer.

Quality and Value

Through the years, the SsangYong Korando has really done it for its consumers. Having been around for so many years, the automaker has made strides in making it their own. With so many features that give it value for money, plus the design, which has won accolades for the company, it is an SUV that is definitely worth its price. Aesthetically beautiful and technologically advanced, this SUV has everything that consumers wish to have. The spacious interior can fit your whole family and their luggage as well, which makes it a truly versatile vehicle. Another good thing about the Korando is that it comes with a 5 year/100,000km warranty and 5 year 24/7 roadside assist.

Mini SUVs have become pretty popular over the past few years, and it will not be impossible for the Korando to have its own share of the market. With excellent features befitting almost any type of person, the Korando is definitely a car to be on the look out.
