The Nissan XTerra is a sport utility vehicle introduced in 1999 by Nissan Motor Corporation. Nissan was founded as a manufacturing company in 1911 in Japan. The company came up with its first automobile in 1914. The name Nissan was first used in the 1930s. The company has been a subsidiary of French automaker Renault since 1999.

The first generation XTerra (which wasn’t introduced in North America until 2000) was a compact design SUV with a higher roof and distinctive humped back lift gate. In 2002 the car received a facelift– including a redesigned front end and dashboard. The Second generation was introduced in 2005 at the New York International Auto Show with some new redesigns– including a longer wheelbase increasing the car to a mid-size SUV. The XTerra received another facelift in 2009 with more interior options and newer paint colors.

Another modification in 2014 included new communication integration with satellite navigation systems, Bluetooth connectivity, text-messaging, and satellite radio. The XTerra has received numerous awards over its years of production, including the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s highest rating for side-impact safety and numerous SUV of the Year.


A new XTerra has a base list price of $23,390.00 US dollars, with the price going up depending on model and feature packages. Pre-owned vehicles are available for less, depending on model year, running condition, and mileage.

The SUV can seat for up to five passengers. The raised roof line offers stadium-style seating and plenty of head room. The second row of seats folds down, increasing cargo capacity from 36.3 cubic feet to 65.7 cubic feet.
