The 2019 Audi Q8 was designed by Sascha Heyde who found it a pretty challenging task to create a spacious SUV. The task given to the designer by the manufacturer was building something unique that would be very different than other Audi models as well as SUVs produced by their competitors. This is how an iconic car was created.
The Q8 is all about proportions. It features short rear overhang, a wide track, a pretty long wheelbase, as well as a low roof. There are also 22-in. wheels, and, all in all, the model is packed with different technical innovations. It is definitely something new, and it was quite difficult to combine all these details in a nice manner.
One of the main distinguishing features of this model is large interior space. There is awesome headroom in the 2nd row, and the back of the car is very spacious. Keeping the roominess was an important task, and Heyde had to create the model gradually to achieve it.
The Q8 is based on Sport Quattro, an iconic Audi model. Although C-pillar, black panel, roof, and face of Sport Quattro are used in the new 2019 model, it has a unique appearance. One of the features that the designer likes in this model the most is the rear black panel featuring the integrated taillights.
