Piaggio had humble beginnings in the naval and railroad manufacturing industry. Over time, they developed experience manufacturing two wheeled vehicles and motorcycles. They designed their first moped in 1967, and eventually produced the Piaggio MP3, a three wheeled scooter with modern features, safety, and maneuverability that could otherwise not be achieved with only two wheels. With two wheels in the front, and one solitary wheel in the back, the MP3 offers added safety and control for its users, as well as increased maneuverability for comfortable, relaxing, and enjoyable experience like no other on the market. Newer models also boast hybrid technology, allowing for maximum fuel and energy efficiency. The MP3 gets is name from “Moto Piaggio a 3 ruote,” meaning “Piaggio motorcycle with 3 wheels.”
The MP3 also offers a unique suspension system, allowing for even greater maneuverability in a number of different conditions. It features a parallelogram suspension with a central steering arm. This allows for an incredible range of motion. It can also be parked without a kickstand, much like a car. The flexibility of the front suspension allows for a wide range of motion, providing a smooth ride through hills, curves, and other obstacles. The suspension features a lock, that can be toggled on and off to the riders’ preference and also depending on terrain. When the battery dies or is disabled, the lock is engaged, preventing accidents and falls. Regular maintenance is recommended to keep the suspension functioning at an optimal level for safety and performance.
There are many variants of the MP3, all boasting different specs and features. 125cc, 250cc, 300cc, 400cc and 500cc engine versions are available. MP3 500 is a widely popular variant of the model. Powered by a 500cc hybrid engine, it is possibly the most powerful MP3 version to date. It makes a grand reputation for itself with its sleek curvy design, matte finish available in both red and black, an aggressive stance and grill structure and additional chrome trim throughout. The MP3 500 also features an ergonomically designed handlebar, a streamlined, comfortable seat and a sophisticated yet aggressive body style. Equipped with LED lights and a more efficient windshield, the MP3 500 is the best version of the MP3 to hit the market to date. It also features a rather large storage compartment capable of storing more than you would need on the road. Two helmets fit comfortably with plenty of room to spare.
Smaller models and engines are available. Piaggio seems to have gone out of their way to produce a capable machine with the consumer in mind. The MP3 is a safe and capable commuter that also has the comfort and feel of a long distance scooter. With it’s antilock breaking system and unique pivoting suspension, the MP3 takes safety to another dimension. Thanks to its hybrid engine, gas mileage is inredible, sometimes up to 141 miles to a single US gallon of gasoline.
It is apparent that the MP3 is an all around great vehicle. Thanks to its hybrid nature, driving it is affordable all while being fun and futuristic. Safety is a top selling point for the MP3, which also allows for a more relaxed ride whether you’re commuting or using it for long distance travel. You can enjoy the ride in comfort and class, no matter your destination.
