The Kia Cee’d is classified as a compact car and is manufactured by the South Korean carmaker Kia since 2006 for various European markets. This vehicle was released in December of 2006, replacing the Kia Spectra. The Cee’d is available as a 5-door hatchback, a 3-door hatchback (the Pro cee’d, or a 5-door estate (the Cee’d SW). This is the first vehicle from Kia ever to be designed and built in Europe and the automaker plans on having it manufactured only in Europe. The first generation of this vehicle, which spans from 2006 to 2012, was designed in Frankfurt, Germany, and uses the same platform as the Hyundai i30.
The Cee’d received a new corporate grille in 2010, which is known as the Tiger Nose and was designed by Peter Shchreyer, Kia’s chief designer. The second generation of this compact car was first introduced to the public in 2012 at the Geneva International Motor Show and was given the codename “JD” during its design and development phase. This Cee’d costs more than its predecessor did when it first came out, moving it away from the more economical image which it which initially marketed with.
When it comes to safety, the Kia Cee’d earned a Euro NCAP rating of 5 stars for adult occupants, four stars for child occupants, and just two stars for pedestrians. The second generation of this vehicle has curtain airbags as a standard feature, even models that are made in countries like the Ukraine where a majority of safety options are typically removed. The Euro NCAP results did reveal that the dashboard in the Cee’d posed a threat to both the driver and passenger’s knees in the event of a frontal collision, even though it has six airbags. This car did, however, score the maximum amount of points for both side impact as well as pole tests.
There are quite a few different variants of the Kia Cee’d, including the Kia Pro_cee’d. This vehicle was first introduced to the public in 2007 at the Frankfurt Auto Show and sales started up in January of 2008. Mechanically, this vehicle is identical to its 5-door sibling, though a lot of the body panels are brand new and did not carry over from the 5-door model. When the first generation of this vehicle came out, it was compared to the Audi A3 because of its similar appearance. There were many people at the time who referred to the Cee’d as the bargain version of the Audi A3.
The Kia Ex_cee’d cabrio concept car was first introduced to the public in 2007 at the 77th Salon de l’Automobiles in Geneva. This vehicle’s design was based on the 3-door Cee’d hatchback or Pro_cee’d and this vehicle shares a platform with it as well. The exterior panels as well as the electric folding fabric roof, however, are completely unique. There is also the Kia Eco cee’d, which received some improvements to make the design more aerodynamic as well as the addition of a mild hybrid engine tuning to the diesel engine.
The Hybrid version of the Cee’d premiered at the 2008 Paris Auto Show and this vehicle uses an electric motor which is powered by a high-voltage battery that is mounted behind the rear seats. In July of 2013, Kia made the decision to release the Pro_Cee’d GT as well as a 5-door Cee’d GT in January of 2014. The GT models of this vehicle are definitely a sign of Kia’s confidence in European markets and it has become a very popular vehicle in numerous countries. Overall, this car is definitely a practical yet stylish choice that will appeal to many.
