The BMW 1 Series offers a series of luxury cars with a compact design. These vehicles were first produced in 2004 and have since gained immense popularity over the years with consumers all over the world. These vehicles have been manufactured in four different body styles, including the BMW E87 (five-door hatchback), BMW E81 (three-door hatchback), BMW E82 (two-door coupe), and the BMW E88 (two-door convertible). The second generation of this series include the BMW F20 (five-door hatchback) and the BMW F21 (three-door hatchback).
The very first generation of the BMW 1 Series resulted in a smaller family car which was launched in 2004 and replaced the BMW 3 Series Compact as this company smallest and most inexpensive vehicle in this range. In May of 2013, the F20 and F21 models superseded the E81 and E87 models. The BMW ActiveE is a demonstration electric car with a design that was heavily influenced by the BMW 1 Series, which were very family-friendly cars. The ActiveE is the second vehicle to be developed after the Mini E with regards to the BMW Group Project i. One of the latest additions to this company’s EfficientDynamics program is the electric drive system which was a revolutionary innovation to be sure.
The ActiveE was definitely an environmentally-friendly development on the part of BMW, no doubt the result of the “green” alternative energy trend which has been quickly picking up steam in the automobile industry in recent years. This vehicle is extremely energy-efficient with its electric motor with a combined fuel economy of around 2.3 liter/100km or 102 miles per gallon, which was an incredible development on this auto maker’s part. While Audi may not necessarily have a reputation for making particularly eco-friendly cars, it was clear that they decided to change directions when designing and manufacturing this one.
The second generation of the BMW 1 Series includes the F21, which is the 3-door hatchback, and the F20, which is the 5-door hatchback. These vehicles both use a longitudinally-mounted engine as well as an aluminum multi-link suspension and a rear-wheel drive chassis, though there are certain models of this vehicle which are available with all-wheel drive. Originally, the F20 was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2011 with a release date later that year. The coupe and convertible are collectively known as the 2 series.
Part of the reason why the BMW 1 Series became so incredibly popular is because of its high performance design and reasonable prices. While this carmaker is certainly not known for its modest prices, the company took a departure from their high figures with this one. While this vehicle is certainly not for everyone, it has become very popular with many consumers. BMW’s innovation with this vehicle took the company in a whole new direction, providing consumers with a bit more of a wider selection to choose from for once.
Each of the cars in the BMW 1 Series have unique exterior as well as mechanical designs, making them unique in their own way. The M135i received the title of “Sports Car of the Year” in 2012 from Top Gear magazine. Today these vehicles are still incredibly popular, partially because of their impressive and sleek design as well as the engines underneath their hoods. This series of vehicles was an important change in Audi’s direction and role in the automobile industry, perhaps ushering in a new era of eco-friendly cars with electric motors and unprecedented fuel economy. With some very powerful 4.0 liter inline-6 300 horsepower engines and standard features that include things like 17” allow wheels and a 10-speaker sound system, these cars are the very definition of luxury and class.
