Tesla Tries Providers to Charge the Semi

While presenting Semi in 2017 the manufacturer declared it could go up to 500 miles without additional charging. It was also announced to tow a maximum of 80 k pounds. After that automaker remained silent. Some producers showed their interest to solve the major challenge – to develop a network of charging units for Semi. Several corporations are collaborating now to settle Semi charging units at their premises.

Project is still under discussion, but it is announced that layouts and technological developments will be done by Tesla. As for now there is no evidence about Tesla to cover at least some expenses on construction or wether companies will reimburse to the automaker for its services under the project. 9 flagship companies have already asked for preliminary orders.

It was announced that the initial step will be setting up charging units at companies’ facilities. It means Tesla cars will be restricted to itineraries within the company areas. Although PepsiCo considers the idea of dividing premises and expenses between several partnering organizations. The industry giant made a preliminary order for 100 cars.

The American auto pioneer admits proceeding with an idea to construct Tesla units for supplying trucks with electricity. They will be not similar to standard chargers for Tesla autos. They would be more like mega charging units empowered by solar energy and capable of charging the battery of Semi in around half an hour. The intrigue still remains the same – Tesla is still doubts it will be able to release Semi because of multiple current difficulties in its manufacturing.
